How To Best Organize Your Home

Georgia Shaw

Have you realized that you are often looking for something and have no idea where you've placed it? Perhaps you are an organized individual, but your spouse and your children turn closets, drawers and the entire house into general chaos. If you've had enough of that, here are some ideas that can help you to turn your home into a very organized one.

Are You Working Solo Or With Family Members? - It's probably time to have a family council.

  • If you're doing the job by yourself, give your family members fair warning. Let them know that they better put their prized possessions in a safe place.
  • If you're making this a joint effort, get your family's support in agreeing to do a thorough job. Offer bribes!
  • Either way, set aside a day or a few days to get the job done. Put those days on the calendar ahead of time so everybody will be reminded of your organizing schedule.
  • Post the different chores that need to be accomplished on a large poster board. Cross them off as they are finished.

Have A Plan And Stick To It - Before you even begin, go through your entire house so that you can assess what needs to be done.

  • Establish three areas, or even three large plastic garbage bags labeled CHARITY, GARAGE SALE, AND TRASH. Put them in strategic places where they can easily be reached.
  • Go from room to room, getting rid of things you don't want and making space for items to be placed neatly in drawers and closets. Remind the kids that they might make money at a garage sale when they dispose of things they no longer use.
  • Ahead of time, buy storage containers like shoe bins, under-the-bed boxes, hanging bags and attractive baskets in which to store things. Don't forget little boxes for jewelry and makeup.
  • Also ahead of time, make arrangements to take things to a full service storage facility. This will be the perfect place for things like holiday items, camping gear, off-season sports equipment, and off-season clothes. Storage facilities are affordable and easy to access. In addition, you'll know that your belongings are safe.

It's a very good idea to make notes of where you place things. In fact, logging notes in a legal size tablet or another kind of notebook will be a good way for you to know where things have been placed.

About Me
Choosing To Move On

I have always wanted to create a more beautiful home for my kids, which is one of the reasons I began focusing so seriously on decluttering my space. I wanted to make my home clean and organized, so I began focusing day and night on making it happen. It took a few months, but eventually I was able to completely move a lot of my extra things into a storage unit. It was incredible to see how much of a difference it made, and within no time my home really felt like a sanctuary for my family. Check out this blog for more information on moving on from clutter and making your home gorgeous with the help of a storage unit.
